I was introduced to Anne Kempton with the intention of providing some tech tips to help make her life easier. Little did she know, we would spend the next few months together building her new website!
In my first few meetings with Anne, I quickly realised she was a passionate business owner and an incredibly creative artist, with the kindest heart. Also, as it turns out, she runs Australia’s only commercial fibre art gallery – and it is right here in Newcastle.
Timeless Textiles, now located next to The Lock Up on Hunter Street, features a variety of textile artists throughout the year, showcasing the works of local, national and international artists. As such, the website needed to display upcoming exhibitions and show the history of all the artists who have come through.
Anne also has artists run workshops on site, which might take a morning or a full three days. Customers come from all around the world, so they need to be able to book in and pay for these workshops on the website. Oh, and customers can also buy from an online gallery shop – so a shopping cart function was a must!
Finally, part of Anne’s mission is to build the profile of fibre art, so there needed to be some space to display artist profiles and connect to their exhibitions. What might have seemed to be a simple redesign had become my most complex coding job yet!
I am so proud of the beautiful, responsive website that is www.timelesstextiles.com.au and I am so glad to have met Anne, who has peaked my interest creatively and provided me numerous home-grown goods along the way.
Next time you are in Newie, head in to see Anne and have a look around the gallery. You are sure to see something unexpected and inspiring – even if it’s just Anne herself!
